Alternate Take is a group of four talented musicians that have joined forces to make one of the most impressive bands on the east coast. Each member has played professionally since their teen years and educational backgrounds include music degrees and Masters degrees. Not only are they well versed in contemporary party and dance music, but also jazz standards of yesteryear, and classical music of centuries past.
This is not just your typical wedding or cover band; this group of songwriter/composers can write a theme for your event that will appeal to almost any crowd. If there is a song you want performed, Alternate Take can do it. Some of the famous stages these musicians have played include Jazz Fest of New Orleans, the famous Cotton Club of New York, Carnegie Hall, Bobcats Arena, and Panther Stadium to name a few. Members have shared the stage with national acts like Hootie and the Blowfish, Edwin McCain, and Sister Hazel. Spencer does an amazing one man solo act playing over 200 shows a year on the east coast. Grant plays sax and keys with Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs when not working with this band, and Howl the Moon dueling piano show in Charlotte, NC. Ryan and Sean both cut their teeth playing in the New York jazz, rock, and gospel scene. Alternate Take knows how to adjust the music they play to fit the crowd. One of the advantages of knowing so many songs and styles is the ability to customize the performance to the mood and occasion at hand. Corporate events, private parties, and festivals are performed with energy, enthusiasm, and style.

Although each wedding day is unique, the experience of doing so many helps them to be prepared for anything that might happen. Your cake cutting, flower toss, and garter toss will be announced by the band as needed, so you don’t have to worry about that. The BigTime Party Band, born in 2003, has quickly become one of the hottest Beach/Variety bands in the Southeast. Playing traditional beach music, motown, rhythm and blues, & classic rock, along w/a wide variety of party favorites perfect for clubs, festivals, weddings and corporate events!
BigTime has enjoyed three (3) songs achieving Top 10 status on 94.9 FM The Surf's (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) beach music charts, with one going all the way to #1 and another to #4. This breakout recording and performing group has quickly solidified its position as one of the most requested in the area. Their very successful "Drink Up" shag dance/party anthem, along with their "Do Ya' Like", were recently inducted into The Surf 94.9 FM Hall Of Fame, stamping their elevation to Beach Music "royalty" status!
With eight (8) active performers, BigTime displays vocal range and strength many other bands cannot easily match. Running the entire gamut from the tenor voices of John Wilson, an energetic and charismatic front man/seconday guitar player, and Johnny Wilson on guitar, the falsetto of keyboardist Bill Hancock, to the mellow stylings of Tiff Wheeler Hancock, herself a standout performer, they personalize each song, impress you with their differences, yet wow you with their harmonious blend.

The Brent Cates Band was formed when lead singer/guitarist Brent Cates was presented with the opportunity to record a studio album in November of 2008. Cates was the drummer and lead singer for the well known Regional band “Two Step-The Ultimate Tribute to Dave Matthews” from 2001-2007.
The group strives to present songs the crowd will be familiar with in a unique fashion and make them fall in love with the songs they aren’t so familiar with. The group’s influences range from classic rock and country all the way to alternative, jazz, and funk. Brent wants every person in the audience to walk away from his shows always wanting more.

Cafe' Mars consists of an all-star line-up of Raleigh/Durham musicians, and can be found most any night of the week at area restaurants and clubs, or regionally at corporate and private events delivering a unique fusion of Top-40 hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and today - including everything from contemporary jazz to funk to bluegrass to rock-n-roll, all filtered through an unusually high-level of experience and musicianship.
Musically-speaking, this is not a cliche' wedding band . . . not even close. While they are regularly hired for high-end weddings and corporate events, it is because of the quality, versatility and uniqueness of their live sets, . . . not because of stereotypical expectations. Since the Catalinas formed in Charlotte in late 1957, over 60 accomplished guitarists, keyboardists, trumpet players, drummers, bass players & singers have been a part of the band.
Gary Barker one of the founding members, attributes the band’s long success to the ongoing popularity of beach music & the tunes the band has composed, Particularly the Hit Song, "Summertime’s Calling Me" in the 1970s.
A Mainstay along the beach circuit and festivals around the Southeast, these guys are still humping it up and down the highway every week, bringing their uptempo, entertaining show to the masses. If you want a great Beach & Variety Dance band for your next event, look no further than the Catalinas!

Beach, Motown, Dance
My career has been a long exciting journey with all roads leading to the musical oasis called Beach Music. In the spring of 1966 in Raleigh, NC, as lead singer of the Showmen, I performed before my first Beach Music audience. Thinking Beach Music was music by artists like The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, we nervously performed a variety of rhythm and blues classics. Surprisingly, each song was met with the audience's approval. As we ended the show with our regional hit "39-21-46" and our nationally charted hit song, "It Will Stand," the audience responded by applauding us back for an encore. Because we didn't know any other songs to perform, we sang two more verses of "It Will Stand" and spontaneously, began to adlib the chorus of Bruce Channel's song "Hey Baby." As we sang "Hey Baby," we waved our hands in the air and to our surprise, everyone in the audience responded by doing the same. When we concluded the show with a bow, the audience showed their appreciation by rewarding us with another thunderous round of applause. That spring night, I understood, appreciated and became a part of the Beach Music phenomenon.
In 1968, 1 moved to Detroit, Michigan to further my career with Invictus Records.
In 1978, 1 returned to the Carolina's with The Chairmen of the Board. For the first time in eight years, I enjoyed performing music without the depression of the music business. I found an independent music industry that was still free of monopoly, politics and categorization. I felt the energy of an industry propelled by its loyal supporters.
I'd like to sincerely thank all Beach Music lovers and supporters for affording me the opportunity to create and perform, without compromise, the music that we treasure. I am humbly appreciative and honored to be a part of the Carolina Beach Music phenomenon.

Our full production consists of the 10 piece band along with professional sound and lighting. We can downsize the group to a 7 or 8 piece when needed. We can come in full costume or for the more formal affair and/or wedding, we have tuxedos and gowns.
